Itinerary: Moscow, Uglich, Yaroslavl, Kizhi Island, St Petersburg

Of all the cruise ships that ply Russia's rivers and waterways, the most elegant is the MS Volga Dream. Because Exeter International only offers the best, the Volga Dream is the only ship featured in our Russian river cruise programme.

Our 10-night cruise runs between Moscow and St Petersburg, visiting the ancient villages of Uglicha and Yaroslavl and beautiful Kizhi Island. We are able to offer outstanding prices on this cruise, from £2,165.

The MS Volga Dream was originally built for 200 passengers, but has been lavishly renovated to accommodate just 115. Cabins are spacious and luxurious, with individually-controlled air-conditioning and heating.

Guest accommodation is located across four levels, including deluxe cabins and suites on the two upper decks. All cabins have outside views, flat screen televisions, minibar, direct dial telephone, plus bathrobes, slippers, hairdryer, bathroom accessories, welcome fruit basket, bottled water and champagne.

The standards of service and cuisine on board the MS Volga Dream are outstanding. Complimentary wines are served with dinner, and there are two lounges, inside and outside bars plus sauna, fitness centre, hairdresser, library and boutique.

River cruises on the MS Volga Dream

Our cruises on board the MS Volga Dream sail between Moscow and St Petersburg, visiting ancient villages, kremlins and churches and Kizhi Island on Lake Onega. There, we visit the Cathedral of the Transfiguration, which is built entirely out of wood, with no nails.

Uglich

Founded in 1148, Uglich is one of the most beloved towns in old Russia. As you approach the town by river, the view of the town is especially lovely with the Cathedral of the Resurrection and St. John's Church looming on the horizon. This delightful town retains much of its original charm in the form of historic wooden architecture and elegant cathedrals, including the famed Tsarevitch Church, built in memory of Ivan the Terrible's son.

Yaroslavl

One of the well-known towns of the "Golden Ring" surrounding Moscow, Yaroslavl was founded in the 11th Century by Yaroslavl the Wise. The village's extraordinary "Kremlin" (fortress) has withstood attacks by the Mongols and Tartars. The town is most famous for its amazing array of fresco-filled churches and cathedrals, among them, the Spassky Monastery and Church of Elijah. Yaroslavl is one of the largest centres of Russian architecture and arts of the 13th – 17th centuries.

Kizhi Island

A remote, fairytale island oasis on Lake Onega, Kizhi boasts the fabled Transfiguration Cathedral of the 18th century. Built entirely of wood with no nails, this house of worship is unique.
