Moscow to Vladivostok
''With Heaven's aid I have conquered for you a huge empire. But my life was too short to achieve the conquest of the world. That task is left for you''.
Genghis Khan, to his sons at the end of his life.
The construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway began in 1891, and a year later the Tsarevitch Nicholas (later Nicholas II) laid the first stone of the eastern station in Vladivostok, Russia. When it was completed in 1916 the track was almost six thousand miles long, it covered over one third of the globe, and passed through eight time zones. The train was famous for its five-course French meals, and its glamorous passengers.
The route starts in Moscow, and passes through Yaroslavl on the Volga, Exaterinburg in the Urals, Irkutsk near Russia's Lake Baikal's southern extremity, Khabarovsk and Vladivostok.
An optional route is to go to Ulaan Bataar rather than to Vladivostok. Several itineraries are available - Moscow to Beijing or the Crimean Express and we will be happy to discuss them with you.
