In the 18th Century the roads of Europe were busy with aristocratic young gentlemen (and ladies) taking the Grand Tour. Travelling by carriage, they visited great cities such as Paris, Vienna, Dresden and Prague, meeting each other in post houses, salons and royal courts.
At Exeter International, we have maintained the tradition of the Grand Tour with our escorted tours of Russia, Central and Eastern Europe. Our groups are small - no more than 20 people - and we stay at the finest hotels and enjoy guided tours of palaces, theatres, cathedrals and museums.
Many of the sights we visit are just as inspiring and beautiful as they were in the 18th Century. Here is a selection of our Escorted Tours in 2008:
White Nights - St Petersburg
Grand Dukes - Moscow and St Petersburg
Tsars and Patriarchs - Moscow, the Golden Ring and St Petersburg
Imperial Capitals (including Kiev)
Alps to the Adriatic – Zagreb to Dubrovnik
Amber Cities – Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn
Nobles and Merchants - Krakow and Warsaw
Rulers and Bohemians - Budapest to Vienna
Ottoman Romance - Istanbul to Prague, including Orient Express
Mariinsky Ballet Festival 2009 - St Petersburg
