Originally an initiative of the Russian Orthodox Church, “Kids Hospice” is a charity dedicated to providing relief and hope for terminally-ill children and their parents. With a general lack of spending plaguing the more specialised segments of Russian health-care, the specific needs of terminally-ill children are not often a state priority. With poor conditions in many of the provincial clinics around Russia, there is very little to smile about, until groups like “Kids Hospice” bring the staff and the funding necessary to create hope for many children’s first and last wishes. “Kids Hospice,” founded in 2003, is managed by professional doctors, nurses, and psychologists, with additional funding and support provided by Exeter International.
